Named after the mythological daughter of Venus and Pygmalion, Paphos is situated on the west coast of the island and is one of the most popular locations in Cyprus. Rich in cultural heritage and included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list, Paphos has many great tourist attractions. Incorporated in this are the Roman Mosaics of Paphos, which include the Houses of Aion and Achilles depicted in their mythological scenes. Other places of interest include the Tombs of the Kings which were carved out of solid rock during the 4th century and the Paphos Odeon, a 2nd century Odeon built out of limestone which is still to this day used for music and theatre performances.
Paphos was once the capital of Cyprus under the successor of Alexander the Great. During this time the harbour was a busy, thriving port. This area of Cyprus is a fabulous area for history lovers and also people who wish to get away from it all and have their very own piece of paradise.
